Elliptical Trainer Machine Vs. Treadmill
If you are
shopping for and exercise equipment, you are going to wonder, which is better,
elliptical trainer machine vs. treadmill. It is
important to mention that with both you are going to prolong the healthy life
and wellness, but there are differences between the two and the preference is
based on what a person really likes.
Treadmill has been
around for many years, vs. elliptical trainer machine (which has not.) But in the recent years, there is a lot more interest in the
elliptical than the treadmill.
The treadmills are
mainly used for walking, jogging, running and hill climbing since they can be
easily adjusted. The main benefit is
that most of the treadmills today are easily stored and can be adjusted to fit
your needs. Most treadmills also have digital control which indicates exactly
how many miles a person has walked, and how many calories a person has burned
as well. They also have a built in
control program, so you can select what kind of exercise you would like to do.
Treadmills
Treadmills are
also designed to build a bone density, and maintain good cardiovascular
health. When you exercise, this also
gets your energy level up. One very
important aspect of using a treadmill is to start slowly and build from
there. Most people think, well let me
just do 500 calories right away, but what that does is actually hurts you and
most people give up because of it.
Some of the
treadmills do have the upper body workout as well. (vs. Elliptical Trainer Machine where each time you do work both upper and lower body!) But in the long run, the
elliptical is a better choice if you need both. If the treadmill does not have
the upper body workout, you can get some weights and use them while walking and
jogging.
Person using a
treadmill vs. the outside jogging, actually has a less chance of hurting their
knees and joints. But having said this, it is still possible to have injury.
Elliptical
Elliptical Trainer machines
were not in the use a lot before (vs. Treadmill which has been a preferable choice) but having said this, they have become very popular in the last
few years. There are the few reasons
why that is.
One of the main
reasons is actually the fact that if you have almost no risk to your back and
joints. This is because with
elliptical, your feet are always placed in paddles. So compared to treadmill,
the elliptical is a better choice. It
does not matter what age you are, if it is going to save your knees and joints,
you need to have a good piece of the equipment.
With elliptical
machine, you use a lot more leg muscle than with the treadmill. This is because you do have to push the
pedals. Elliptical are definitely a
better way to get the most out of the lower body workout. And since with elliptical you have to hold
onto the handles, this makes the elliptical a better workout for the upper
body.
With elliptical
machines you burn more calories faster.
This is because you are exercising the upper and lower body. Elliptical machines also save time because
with treadmill you need to exercise about 45-60 min. with elliptical only about
30 min. Plus with elliptical you don’t
have to work out the whole body, as you can de-select the option to use the
upper body workout.
One of the main
complaints is that most people don’t “feel”
that they get the whole body workout, but in reality they do it just
means that there is less strain on the body.
On more main
benefit compared to Treadmill is that when you do stop, the machine stops, with
treadmill that is not the case.
Elliptical may also be a little more safer if you have children around.
By far, these are
the two machines that are used the most in the selection of the exercise
machine, but again, when choosing between the Elliptical trainer machine vs. Treadmill,
the preference is often based on people choice.
